Triceps Dips, A Trainer’s Look, and The Video Proof

2 min readFeb 15, 2025
Screenshot from the video my trainer took with my phone.

I paid ₹60,000 — $715 — for this. ₹48,000 for personal training, ₹12,000 for gym access. A commitment. A structure. A trainer who — thankfully — cares about my progress.

He also looks deeply annoyed when I don’t do something correctly.

Today, triceps dips tested both of us.

It started well. First eight reps? Solid. Then, somewhere between reps 8 and 15, my form started falling apart. My arms flared, my hips didn’t dip low enough — something was off.

Instead of scolding me (or looking even more annoyed), my trainer did something unexpected — he grabbed my phone and recorded the entire set.

Later, he handed it to me and said, “Watch. First eight were good. See where you started getting sloppy?”

I did. And I got it. Sometimes, you don’t feel what’s going wrong until you see it.

And that’s what I paid for. Not just the exercises, not just the structure, but someone who will notice when I need to course-correct, push me when I can take it, and adjust when I can’t.

Sure, he’ll still give me The Look when I mess up an exercise. But at least now, I’ll have video proof.

Monday’s a fresh start. I’m ready.
