Splashes of Monsoon Rain In My Coffee

Rushing to work with an unread newspaper on my head to protect me from the spatters of rain, with a coffee cup in my other hand.

Why would rain splash in your coffee, Roopa, do you carry an open ceramic cup of coffee with you when you walk to your car?

Yes. Doesn’t everybody?

When Vikesh drives, and I’m riding shotgun, I carry a tall mug of hot coffee with a little coffee in the bottom third of the cup to sip on.

I can protect the coffee from spills when the car jerks over potholes and speed bumpers with my hands. The length of the cup between the surface of the coffee liquid and the rim of the cup does the rest.

For those who don’t know what a monsoon is:

A monsoon is a rainy season between June-September in India depending on which coast you are. It lasts for about a month or three in each region.
